The Aeon reels started off as a design study that was an exploration into creating a fly reel with an aesthetic that would never date - to be Timeless. This endeavor was never about replicating the heritage-inspired styles of classic reels but was instead focused on reimagining what timeless design can truly mean.
By combining organic forms inspired by nature with subtle touches of Scandinavian design language, we created an aesthetic that nods to the trends of the past while embracing a distinctly modern twist.
It has been a long and rewarding journey, one where we delved deeply into the history of our company and the legacy of fly reels. Driven by a passion for both aesthetics and performance, we are now proud to unveil the culmination of our efforts – the Aeon.
The Fibonacci sequence, named after Italian mathematician Leonardo of Pisa (Fibonacci), was introduced in his 1202 book Liber Abaci. It illustrated the growth of a rabbit population and became a foundational concept in mathematics, appearing in nature, art, and algorithms due to its unique recursive properties. This is the inspiration for the Aeon front face, where the Fibonacci array is embellished by micro-diameter circular porting and organic curves to deliver an elegant form.
A Fluted bezel provides a contemporary yet timeless exterior detail to the Aeon and the rear frame showcases subtle yet refined detailing, via a mixture of Matte vs Gloss textures and contrasting colour work with a Dual-Anodised Drag indicator.
Each of these elements symbiotically merge to drive an aesthetic which we believe plays into a new luxurious, highly elegant, timeless Scandinavian design language.
Our modern, high-powered carbon braking system delivers 7.5 kilograms of braking force, providing ample sealed carbon power for taming the leviathans of the migratory world. Anti-snag design features on the spool nut and drag knob, thanks to an innovative winged design, ensure easy use while minimising line catches on the water. The full-frame design offers a more traditional reel weight, intentionally offsetting and counter-balancing heavier classic-action fly rods. Lastly, the acoustics of the Aeon reels have been precisely tuned to produce a sound reminiscent of a classic reel, with an instantly recognisable Guideline tone on every fish.
The acoustics of the Aeon reels were meticulously crafted to deliver an exceptional audio experience. By precisely tuning both the frequency hertz (the pitch) and the decibels (the volume), the reels achieve a classic sound that evokes timeless, traditional design while exceeding modern performance expectations. The result is a reel that not only looks stunning but also sounds as good as it performs.
The oversized, winged drag knob offers an innovative and ergonomic grip, making it easy to adjust during a fight or when quick changes are needed. Its four blades fit naturally between your fingers, providing precise control for seamless drag adjustments. With a well-calibrated range of motion, the drag knob ensures smooth operation and reduces the risk of overtightening, even in the heat of battle.
