A very important fly during the period July-September in Scandinavia, somewhat depending on altitude and how far up in the country you live. The pattern can also be fished as a common ant fly throughout the season with good results. But when the summer holidays are over, you should have it in the box and get out on those days with high humidity and a little wind. A little sunshine on an otherwise a little cool and windless day is also not to be despised. The autumn swarms of ants usually come in the afternoon from 2-3 o'clock and later. there is some movement so look for places where insects can gather, windbreaks and where it blows on land.
Impregnate it with cdc-friendly floatant such as TMC Dry Magic or our CDC Gel. Apply first on the body, then the hackle, and the little that is left you put on the wing. Take a cast and be patient when fishing for trout that graze ants. They can take their time, and are easily intimidated by too many throws. Check where the fish are swimming, cast and wait!
